If you smell T-R-O-U-B-L-E on Sunday, be sure to follow the scent, because a great pot of chili is bound to be behind it.

Twenty-five amateur chili-cooking teams from around the region will converge on Classic Iron Motorcycles in Spotsylvania County on Saturday for the 2012 Chili Fest, sponsored by the Star Radio Group, which is owned by The Free Lance-Star Publishing Co.

The event will feature performances by country music star Travis Tritt (whose "T-R-O-U-B-L-E" was a hit in the early '90s), along with local artist Kevin Mac and Mike Corrado. Corrado is an active-duty Marine who has won national acclaim for his musical talents, and is known for his singles "Stand" and "On My Watch Tonight."

The festivities run from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 on the day of the event. They can be purchased at wfls.com, at The Free Lance-Star front office at 616 Amelia St. in Fredericksburg, or at the Spotsylvania Towne Centre customer service desk. Platinum seating costs $40, and kids 10 and under are admitted free if accompanied by adults with general admission tickets.

In addition to the chili and the concert, the event will feature a number of kids' activities, a car and bike show, a motorcycle stunt show, a Madden 2012 tournament, a Travis Tritt look-alike contest and more. The day is billed as "40 acres of family fun."

For the chili cookoff, cooking teams can cook in any style they like, and organizers say they've seen everything from vegetarian to wild game chilis in years past.

A slate of judges including Rep. Rob Wittman and other local officials will judge the entries and will award nearly $2,000 in prize money. Eventgoers can taste the entries from noon until supplies run out. Each team will cook 10 gallons.
