Y Street promotes healthy teen choices

Two Stafford County high schools will receive $2,000 grants from the Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth to support chapters of the Y Street teen volunteer group, which promotes healthy, active, tobacco-free lifestyles.

Colonial Forge and North Stafford are among the 24 Virginia schools to receive a Y Street grant this year.

The grants are awarded to student organizations in Virginia for encouraging teens to become a part of Y Street.

By the end of November, each of the recipients will host a Y Street training event in their community, training at least 25 teens and one adult coordinator to become a working Y Street chapter.

Last year, Y Street added 629 teen members, who collectively completed nearly 1,000 projects and volunteered more than 2,900 hours.
