Herman Hidmore Walton Jr., 83, of Orange County died Thursday Oct. 4, 2012, at Dogwood Village in Orange.
Born May 4, 1929, in Richmond, he was a son of the late Herman Hidmore Walton Sr. and Elizabeth Trice Walton. Mr. Walton was the president of Walton Lumber Company and a former member of the Louisa County Board of Supervisors. He also served on the board of directors for Virginia National Bank and was a member of Elk Creek Baptist Church.
Mr. Walton will be remembered for his contributions to his county, state and country, and his generosity to his friends and family.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Morris Fackrell Walton; two sons, H.H. Walton III and Michael S. Walton; two daughters, Linda Sue Walton and Rebecca Louis Donley; two sisters, Mary Lou Dickinson and Martha W. High; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara G. Walton; and sister Emma W. Harris.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday Oct. 8, at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Gordonsville, with the Rev. Herbert Hart, Dr. John Farrar and the Rev. Rick Clore officiating. Interment will be private in Maplewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the service.
