newcomers holding fashion show
The Newcomers and Old Friends Club will hold a fashion show and luncheon on Thursday, Oct. 25 at the Fredericksburg Country Club as their fall fundraiser.
Doors open at 10:30 a.m. to give those attending time to visit with vendors, who will be selling clothing, jewelry, and more.
Lunch is at noon. The event will feature door prizes and edible centerpieces.
For the fashion show, Dress Barn will provide the fashions.
Tickets are required and must be purchased by Oct. 17. Cost is $26. Reservations are for tables of eight only. All other seats are first come, first served.

Fredericksburg Christian Schools will host its 2012 Christian College Fair on Monday, Oct. 16, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
More than 30 colleges will take part.

doll club holding annual fundraiser
The Now & Then Doll Club will hold its annual fundraiser doll show and sale Saturday at the Fredericksburg Elks Lodge No. 875, 11309 Tidewater Trail, from 10 a.m-noon.
Cost is $5.50 for adults, $2.50 for children. Scouts in uniform get in for free when accompanied by a paying adult.
The show will include an educational exhibit, Madame Alexander Dolls Through the Ages. There also will be dealers of antique to modern dolls and toys.
republican women hosting delegate
Del. Rob Bell, R-Charlottesville, will be the guest speaker at the monthly meeting of the Founding Fathers Republican Women at 7 p.m. on Oct. 15 in the Parish Hall of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 115 N. Main St., Culpeper.
Public parking is in the rear of the church, off Commercial Street near the Depot.
Bell will discuss the eminent domain issue that is on the ballot in November.
In addition, group member Dr. Tom Neviaser will discuss health care reform and its impact on the medical profession and medical care.
veterans official meets with club
Paul Galanti, commissioner of the Virginia Department of Veterans Services, will speak at Wednesday's meeting of the Military Officers Association of America meeting at the Globe and Laurel restaurant, 3987 Jefferson Davis Highway in Stafford County.
Refreshments are scheduled for 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. and then remarks.
The meeting is open to all active duty and retired military officers.
Coat and tie are required. Dinner cost is $25, which includes tax and tip.

democrats set event in stafford
The Stafford Democratic Committee will host "Jazz Up Columbus Day" at Jimmy the Greek Restaurant on State Route 610 on Monday, 5-9 p.m.
The event will include four dinner selections, three children's meal choices and the chance to meet local candidates. Adam Cook, candidate for Congress in District 1, and Aneesh Chopra, who is seeking the party's nomination for lieutenant governor in 2013, will attend.
Pete Fields, a classical guitarist and also a former Stafford supervisor and planning commissioner, will provide entertainment.

Open hand hosting tasting party
Open Hand of Fredericksburg will host a Wildtree Tasting Party on Wednesday, 6-8 p.m. at New City Fellowship, 200 Prince Edward St.
Wildtree offers organic pantry foods. The fundraiser will support Open Hand's Summer Youth Worker Programs, which teach readiness and life skills.
The event is free.

K.G. YMCA SETS RACES FOR KIDS
The King George YMCA will sponsor its fourth annual Fall Festival 5K and 1-mile Kids Fun Run on Oct. 14.
The 5K begins at 8 a.m., followed by the Kids Run at 9:30. Both races begin and end at the King George YMCA.
The event is sponsored by NSWC Federal Credit Union, Community Bank of Tri-County and EXIT Realty Expertise.
The race is part of the Rappahannock Area YMCA race series. Proceeds benefit the King George Fire and Rescue Company volunteers.

Stafford Choral seeking singers
The Stafford Regional Choral Society is looking for singers for their annual Christmas concert. The Dec. 16 concert will feature selections from Handel's "Messiah" and other holiday favorites.
The group is accepting singers for all vocal parts. Rehearsals are on Sundays, beginning Oct. 14 from 6-8 pm at Colonial Forge High School chorus room.
Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 14 and 21.
Singers from high school through adult are welcome. The group especially welcomes male vocal part singers.

SPOTSY HOSTING LITTER PICK UPS
Spotsylvania County is holding a litter-thon on Saturdays throughout October.
Nonprofit groups and clubs can participate and raise funds in the event sponsored by Spotsylvania County Litter Control.
Remaining dates are Oct. 13, 20 and 27. Groups that pick up litter along the roadways will get $5 per bag. The Litter Control Department will provide bags.
