I have no reservations in voting to re-elect Barack Obama to a second term. I have been disappointed that GOP Tea Party partisan legislators have blocked his every move.
This is my 19th presidential election. My first was in 1940, when in Texas I had to pay a poll tax. Many of those elections were bitterly fought. Perhaps the most negative ad--until now--was the little girl and the atom bomb used by the LBJ campaign against Goldwater.
However, I do not recall as negative a campaign as the Mitt Romney campaign. They seem to be pleased that the fact-checkers find their work false. They contend that the polls are somehow controlled by the Democrats. The Romney campaign's welfare ad is untrue and designed to divide and appeal to bigotry. Mitt personally has said he believes it is true.
The six businessmen who have become president, while perhaps good men, have not been noteworthy presidents. Romney to date has not demonstrated a clear understanding of the federal government or even American society.
George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush, and Herbert Hoover were our last three businessman presidents. There was another businessman, Warren G. Harding, and the Teapot Dome scandal.
