To answer recent television ads by the GOP, yes, President Obama promised to turn the economy around in three years. His biggest mistake was thinking that Congress would join with him to accomplish this.
Instead, the Republican-controlled Congress made a conscious effort to obstruct his every proposal.
Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) set the tone when he declared that their main objective was to make this president a one-term president, shortly after Obama took office. For the next four years, the leaders of the House of Representatives, John Boehner and Eric Cantor, hung the American people out to dry for the sole purpose of making Obama look like a failed president. It has worked with nearly half of the electorate.
The problem for them now is that they chose an undesirable candidate to oppose him in 2012. They could not have picked a more radical pair, Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, to accomplish their goal.
Also, we cannot tie the balance of power in the Senate by electing George Allen. Cantor has done his part for the cause, as well, by holding the American worker hostage. We need to elect people who will work for the entire country. We need to elect Barack Obama and Tim Kaine, and replace Eric Cantor with Wayne Powell.
