No one party has a monopoly on virtue

I am compelled to respond to Linda White's piece in the Sunday, Oct. 7, Free Lance-Star, "Would a 'virtuous'--or free--people re-elect this ticket?" The answer is yes.

Virtuous, rational people can vote for Obama or Romney. No party can claim a monopoly on virtue. Unfortunately, her piece did nothing to elevate the level of political discourse in this election season.

Sadly, it contributes to the noise from some pundits on both sides that divides neighbor from neighbor and friend from friend. It is my hope that after the election, no matter who wins, we can stop letting pundits divide us and come together as virtuous people who love and support one another regardless of our political persuasion.

And, most important, I hope we work together to help those among us who don't yet share the blessings we enjoy.
