Greta Beane Houck, 31, of Spotsylvania County peacefully departed this life on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at Mary Washington Hospital, with her family by her side.
Greta was born Nov. 29, 1980, in Fredericksburg. During her time on earth, she exhibited a vivacious spirit for life filled with a strong commitment to human rights, a love for animals and the natural ability to make those around her find joy and laughter.
Greta is survived by her father and mother, State Sen. Edd Houck and Dana Blankenship Houck; brother Todd Houck and his wife, Cheri, and their children, Kyla and Kalissa and her fiance, Jason Ladmirault; an uncle, Ronald Houck; two aunt, Donna Compton and Dorothy Houck; stepgrandmother Betsy Blankenship; and her caretaker, Judy Spradlin. She also leaves a host of other family members and loved ones to cherish her memory.
A celebration of Greta's life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Salem Baptist Church, 4044 Plank Road, Fredericksburg, with the Rev. Jeff Packard officiating. Family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. at the church. A reception will be held immediately following the service in the fellowship hall.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Greta's name to The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Central Virginia Chapter, 4200 Innslake Drive, Suite 301, Glen Allen, Va. 23060.
