Many contributed to my wife's survival

My wife, Sharon, and I would like to thank Erica Cutrona, Mathew Wood, Anita Heller, Matt Pifer, and Victor Podbielski, members of the Ladysmith Rescue Squad; Debbie Schools of the Caroline County dispatch unit; Dr. Orlando Smith and Dr. Helen Bellar; and all the nurses and medical staff at Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center.

On Sept. 1, I had to do what I have never done before and make a 911 call. The dispatcher who answered the phone was Debbie. Without hesitation she evaluated the information and instructed me on what to do until rescue workers arrived. They took over with the utmost care and professionalism. These volunteers and their dedication are indescribable.

Once Sharon arrived at the hospital, Dr. Smith and Dr. Bellar were aggressive in their treatment. Both kept me informed every step of the way as to why they were doing what they were doing. The dedication to their profession was evident.

The nurses and medical staff were unbelievable. They took care of Sharon as though she was their mother, sister, daughter, or aunt. Without these caring citizens, my wife would not be alive today.

One last item: Everyone should learn how to do CPR. You never know when you might be called upon to perform this procedure.
