'Sorry' doesn't repay damages invaders caused

Date published: 10/23/2012

It is apparent that Tyler Scott Laing and Jonathan Parker Frame are truly sorry for their home invasion of Jan. 10 ["Two get 26 years in home robbery," Oct. 11]. They are truly sorry that they were caught and faced a judge who could see through their "teary apologies for the terror they caused."

Fortunately for the residents of Spotsylvania County (and all surrounding counties), their all-to-often-used excuse of drug dependency did not work in this court. "Let her die," and "shoot" are words that ruthless criminals use. There should be no sympathy for these actions, no matter what excuse they give to get a reduced sentence.

People need to take responsibility for their actions, if it's taking drugs in the first place or criminal behavior to support that habit. Maybe they can receive the help they need in jail to get beyond the drug addiction they say drove them to this point, but jail is where they belong.

It is hoped that their victims will be able to get past this horrible event (although I'm sure they'll never forget it) and be able to go on with their lives.

Good job, Judge Beck. We need more men like you.
