The Barnes & Noble bookstore taking over the former Borders location in Central Park will hold its grand opening Nov. 7.

This will be the first Barnes & Noble store in the Fredericksburg area.

Students from Hugh Mercer Elementary School in Fredericksburg will sing for customers during the grand opening, which runs from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. A portion of the proceeds from that day's sales will be donated to the Fredericksburg school.

As part of the celebration, Barnes & Noble will be selling its Nook Simple Touch Reader for $59 from Nov. 14 to Nov. 23 while supplies last. The price, which is the lowest ever for this model, will be available at the Central Park location only. The Simple Touch normally sells for $99.

The new store will have more than 60,000 books, plus magazines and newspapers, DVDs, gift items, a Nook Boutique, an educational toys and games department and a cafe featuring Starbucks coffee and The Cheesecake Factory bakery items.

Barnes & Noble isn't the only new business going into that section of Central Park. Bed Bath & Beyond is converting the former Shoppers Food & Pharmacy into spaces for two of its subsidiaries: Buy Buy Baby and Christmas Tree Shops. They are expected to open by the end of the year.

Buy Buy Baby is holding interviews for full- and part-time positions from 9:30 am. to 7 p.m. today at Fredericksburg Hospitality House in Central Park. For details, call 888/462-2290. Those unable to attend can send resumes to
Email: jobs@buybuyBABY.com.

Interviews for positions at Christmas Tree Shops are being held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Hampton Inn at 1080 Hospitality Lane in Fredericksburg. For details, call 972/322-7045. Those unable to attend can send resumes to emailhr7078@christmas treeshops.com.
