Dig at kiln site starts today

Fredericksburg's second archaeological dig in two weeks begins today at Amelia Square, a townhome development under construction at William and Winchester streets.

A large team led by Dovetail Cultural Resource Group aims to learn whether a stoneware kiln and pottery operated there in the early 1800s.

The all-volunteer "salvage" dig is expected to end Monday. The public is invited to visit from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday through Sunday. More at Past is Prologue: bit.ly/pip1957.
