BY RICHARD AMRHINE

Fawn Lake is full of very nice homes. Some of them set themselves apart in one way or another. Still others particularly stand out, and the home at 10508 Chatham Ridge Way is one of those.

There is a lot to take in here, both inside and out the single-story home with full finished basement. Curb appeal is certainly covered, with a front yard of tidy grass flowing around islands of landscaping and mulch. The house itself, with its many gables, large arched-transom windows with crosshatched grilles and combination stone and stucco exterior, makes a handsome appearance.

For golfing fanatics, the house backs up to the Fawn Lake course's 14th fairway, so the view of a grassy yard extends well beyond the house.

Owners James and Margaret Spicer have decided to place the home on the market, listing it with Amy Cherry Taylor of Avery Hess Realtors. The asking price is $899,900.

Altogether, the house, built in 2007, has 6,266 square feet of living space with five bedrooms and four full bathrooms on the two levels. It sits on a lot just under two-thirds of an acre.

A particularly attractive element of the design is how well the house merges with its outdoor living areas.

Off the main-level living area is a large flagstone patio, perfect for both entertaining or simply enjoying time or a meal with family.

A unique space is the alcove that's accessible either from the basement or via the steps down from the main-level patio. The covered, open-air, flagstone-covered space offers a wonderful al fresco experience, and it's now decorated to be reminiscent of an Italian bistro.

Out front, visitors arrive on an asphalt drive that serves the three-car garage. The garage door style not only blends well with the home's exterior, it enhances it.

THE INDOOR TOUR

Inside the main double door is a welcoming foyer with a two-tone hardwood floor inlay. Immediately noticeable is the detailed trim work, such as crown molding with flourishes at the corners.

The open floor floor plan lends a feel of spaciousness but not at all the cavernous feel of some high-square-footage homes.

Around the foyer, in spaces defined by decorative columns, are the formal living and dining rooms with 20-foot ceilings, and the combination family room, kitchen, and informal eating area straight ahead. Also at the front of the house is a home office.

The family room and kitchen work together to form a comfortable, inviting area. The hardwood floor extends into here, and both areas share medium cherry cabinetry that exudes warmth. Family room seating surrounds a gas fireplace with large-screen TV above. Family room cabinetry is also home to controls for the whole-house sound and security systems.

The island kitchen has near-black granite countertops and a black oven wall. The refrigerator and dishwasher are covered in cabinet-matching panels. There's also a wine cooler.

Flanking the main living area are the bedroom wings. The master suite is a wing unto itself, with its luxury ceramic tile bathroom featuring dual vanities, and separate garden tub and large glass-door shower.

The large master bedroom offers patio access and the home's second gas fireplace.

On the other side of the house are two main-level secondary bedrooms, one with its own bath, the other using a full hallway bathroom nearby.

Up one flight is a large bonus room over the garage that's fully carpeted, has built-in shelving and could serve a multitude of uses.

Now it's time to go downstairs, the retreat for fun and recreation. The main space offers a gathering area, a game area and a kitchenette with its own granite countertops.

There's a luxury bedroom for guests down here and a full bathroom. Rooms for hobbies and exercise are here as well.

Down a short hallway one enters the media room, a dedicated space with a projection video system, huge screen, serious surround sound system and sumptuous seating.

A large unfinished area serves as the utility room and storage space.

Agent Taylor said window treatments will convey. Other items may be available by separate arrangement.
