riverbend high presenting play
Riverbend High School's Theater Department will present Ken Ludwig's "Midsummer/Jersey" Nov. 7-10 at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $7 and all profits will benefit the Corp. Brett Lundstrom Scholarship Fund for the Performing Arts.
Lundstrom was a Marine from Stafford County who was killed while serving in Iraq.
Grymes School holds open house
Grymes Memorial School, an independent coeducational day school in Orange County for youngsters in junior kindergarten through eighth grade will hold an open house on Thursday, Nov. 8, 9-11 a.m., for prospective parents.
The event will include school tours, chances to observe classrooms and discussions and coffee with current parents and faculty.
Grymes provides complimentary transportation for six surrounding localities, including Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania County, from central locations.

FALL FESTIVAL, HEALTH FEST SCHEDULED
Spotsylvania County will hold its fall festival at the Marshall Center and family health fest at Spotsylvania Middle School, both on Saturday.
The fall festival is scheduled 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature a craft show and sale, children's activities, live music, hay rides and more. The Marshall Center is at 8800 Courthouse Road.
The family health fest is scheduled 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Spotsy Middle School Gym, 8801 Courthouse Road.
There will be health information, vision screenings for children, flu shots by Prime Care, Health Screening by the Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center, blood pressure, body mass index, blood sugar and cholesterol, and financial and physical fitness vendors and more.
STAFFORD VIPERS HOLDING TRYOUTS
The 10-U Stafford Vipers travel baseball coaching staff will hold tryouts for the 2013 season on Saturday at 11 a.m. The team is looking to fill two or three roster spots, and pitching ability is a plus. To be eligible, boys cannot be age 11 before May 1, 2013.

Writing contest set for veterans day
Reality Realty Professionals Home for the Heroes and Spotsylvania County Schools are teaming up to have a writing contest for Veterans Day for middle-school-age youngsters.
The contest gives youngsters a choice from three topics.
