Asnowplow clears U.S. 211 near the Thornton Gap entrance to Shenandoah National Park in Rappahannock County. Superstorm Sandy delivered a glancing blow to Virginia, but left a blanket of snow in high elevations. Flakes began falling Monday night and the Thornton Gap area had about 3 inches by noon Tuesday. Rangers reported a foot of snow farther south on Skyline Drive.
