STORM WAS PERFECT FOR SOME LOCALS

Date published: 10/31/2012

Hurricane Sandy may have fizzled out locally, but it was the perfect storm for Joanna Dugan's three sons--Brett, Seth and Cole.

The Chancellor Elementary students spent the weekend before the storm on Skyline Drive, hiking and leaf-peeping.

The Dugan family arrived home just in time to stock up on potato chips, snack cakes, doughnuts and "all those yummy things that can survive an apocalypse," said mom Joanna.

Like most students throughout the area, the Dugans had Monday and Tuesday off as school districts cancelled classes because of the hurricane. So Sandy didn't wreak much havoc but it did offer up a good deal for area students, giving them two days off without canceling Halloween parties.

One of the Dugan brothers woke up with strep throat Monday morning, but that didn't stop the trio from enjoying the storm with junk food and a movie marathon.

"They had a great weekend getaway, some time to recover from their mini vacation," Joanna Dugan said. "One got sick and didn't miss a lesson. And now they will carve pumpkins, go to school and party, then raid the neighbors' candy bowls before spending two real school days back in the classroom before another weekend."
