HH "ALEX CROSS" (PG-13) Tyler Perry's first action outing is a dud, with a dull plot but a decent crazed criminal. Rated PG-13 for violence including disturbing images, sexual content, language, drug references, and nudity. 101 min. [RA, RF]

HHH "ARGO" (R) This retelling of a plan to get hidden hostages out of Iran--with agents posing as a Canadian film crew making a sci-fi film--is perfectly paced and grippingly told, the best film of the year so far. Rated R for language and violent images. 120 min. [PV, RA]

HHH "FRANKENWEENIE" (PG) This interesting though dark tale of a boy reanimating his deceased dog is probably not intended for most youngsters. Rated PG for thematic elements, scary images and action. 87 min. [PV]

HH "HERE COMES THE BOOM" (PG) Kevin James is talented, but can't save this film that strains credibility by casting him as a martial arts fighter trying to save his school. Rated PG for rude humor, language and sport violence. 105 min. [RF]

HH "HOUSE AT THE END OF THE STREET" (PG-13) Jennifer Lawrence makes this thriller about a house where dark secrets linger better than expected. Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and terror, thematic elements, language, teen partying and brief drug material. 101 min. [RF]

HH "HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA" (PG) While nothing deep, this tale of Dracula worrying about his daughter leaving the nest is funny and fine for kids. Rated PG for some rude humor, action and scary images. 95 min. [MC, RA, RF]

HHH "LOOPER" (R) Despite time-travel contradictions, this tale of a killer who confronts the notion of evil is captivating. Rated R for violence, language, sexuality/nudity, drug content. 119 min. [PV]

H"PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 4" (R) Originally a captivating phenomenon, this found-footage stuff is old now, its tricks here tired. Rated R for language and some violence/terror. 95 min. [MC, PV, RA]

HH"PITCH PERFECT" (PG-13) There are really funny moments in this comedy about a college choral group, but weak ones too. Rated PG-13 for sexual material, language, drug references. 112 min. [PV]

HH"SEVEN PSYCHOPATHS" (R) Extreme violence ruins what was trying to be an edgy film about, yes, seven psychopaths and a dog-kidnapping scheme. Rated R for strong violence, bloody images, pervasive language, sexuality/nudity and drug use. 111 min. [PV]

HH"SINISTER" (R) There are scary moments in this story of a man who finds evil in the house he moves into, but not enough happens to capitalize on them. Rated R for disturbing violent images and some terror. 109 min. [MC, PV, RA]

HH"TAKEN 2" (PG-13) Though not as good as the original, there's still plenty of action--and Liam Neeson as the guy kidnappers shouldn't steal from. Rated PG-13 for intense violence, action, some sensuality. 92 min. [MC, PV, RA]
