Bryan Tucker was selected as Fredericksburg Optimist Club's Student of the Month for September at Fredericksburg Christian School. He is the son of Philip and Georgia Tucker. Bryan is a member of the National Honor Society and is a part of the Leadership Institute IMPACT program at Fredericksburg Christian School. He has been a member of the student government and was selected as a Homecoming representative. He played varsity basketball for four years and is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He attends Strong Tower Ministries in Fredericksburg and has served in the community at the Presbyterian Home and in feeding the homeless at Shiloh Baptist Church in downtown Fredericksburg. Bryan is interested in studying engineering in college.
The following students have been selected as the Fredericksburg Optimist Club's Students of the Month for October.
Tori Hebdon, daughter of Allen and Julie Hebdon, was selected at Spotsylvania Career and Technical Center. Tori is enrolled in the Video Production program and has served as the District Reporter for SkillsUSA as well as winning a gold medal at the State level of SkillsUSA in the Radio Pre-Produced Contest. She is also a member of the Morning Announcements team, the Spanish National Honor Society, Drama Club, Art Club, and the new Ultimate Film Project at Massaponax High School. When Tori graduates, she plans to attend a four year university.
Rachel Evans, daughter of Keith and Jacquelyn Evans, was selected at Fredericksburg Christian School. Rachel has dedicated herself to Fredericksburg Christian School, serving as class president for four years. She leads her FCA huddle, is a youth helper and has served on several missions trips. Rachel earned varsity letters in basketball and volleyball where she was selected as team captain. She received numerous awards for leadership and character and was class homecoming representative for three years. Rachel has a servant's heart and looks forward to the challenges that lie ahead.
Alex Kangas, son of Roger and Denise Kangas of Stafford County was selected at Fredericksburg Academy. He is a member of the swim team, co-captain of robotics, saxophonist in the jazz band and chair of the Student Life Committee. Alex serves the community by cooking meals for two hours each month at the homeless shelter with St. Jude Catholic Church. He is applying for admittance to schools in Pennsylvania and South Carolina, as well as to Cornell, Northwestern and University of Virginia.
Kathleen Malloy, daughter of Tammi and Sean Malloy, was selected at Chancellor High School. Katy is a member of the Drama Club, Latin Club, Key Club, Youth Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Project and the National Society of High School Scholars. Her leadership responsibilities include serving as the president of the National Honor Society, co-captain of the Academic Team, and secretary of the Senior Class. She was the Chancellor High School representative for the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Conference and attended Girls State, and was chosen for the Harry F. Byrd Jr. Leadership Award. Katy holds a third degree Black Belt in KaeKwon Do and plays soccer with parks and recreation. She is very involved in community service, especially through Special Olympics. She plans to attend college next fall, with Army ROTC and study criminology.
Abigail Holcombe, daughter of Donny and Sharon Holcombe, was selected at Courtland High School. She is president of the Environmental and French clubs, was Junior Class secretary, SCA representative, Junior Board member, captain of the tennis team and a member of the National Honor Society, French Honor Society and LAMP (Literary Advancement and Mentorship Program.)
Abigail received an Academic Letter, Bar and Lamp; SCA letter; and varsity letter for tennis. She was Science Student of the Month in tenth grade and received the Science Department award in ninth grade.
Abigail is a violinist in a string quartet that plays at local nursing homes, and participated in the Rappahannock River cleanups. She manages the recycling system for home sporting events at Courtland High School. Abigail hopes to attend the College of William and Mary, majoring in environmental science with a minor in film studies.
Bridger Johnson, son of Jared and Sharlett Johnson, was selected at Riverbend High School. He played football for four years at Riverbend, three years on varsity and one year on junior varsity. He is a cadet Captain in the Chicori JROTC battalion, and is a member of the JROTC Raider Unit. He is also a member of the National Honor Society and the National Latin Honor Society, and is an an Eagle Scout. Bridger works part time as a maintenance crew member at a local country club. He hopes to attend the Naval Academy.
