Ernest Calvin Smith, 87, of Thornburg went to be with the Lord Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, after a long battle with Alzheimer's.
Mr. Smith was a U.S. Navy WWII veteran. He retired from the FMC Plant and VDOT. He also owned and operated Smith's Welding Service. Mr. Smith was a member of Waller's Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Berkeley Hunt Club.
Survivors include his children, Jimmy Hockaday and his wife, Janice, of Spotsylvania County, Brenda Smith Comacho and her husband, Emelio, of Spotsylvania and Wanda Smith Cushman of Thornburg; three grandchildren, Dennis Hockaday, Dean Hockaday and Kevin Greene; three great-grandchildren, Randy Lopez, Brian Calvin Lopez and Cheyenne Greene; and his loving caregivers who have provided excellent care for him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Addie Bernice Smith; brother Joseph Thomas Sacra Sr.; and sisters Jeanette Shephard and Thelma White.
A service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
