Frances Swann Grose, 89, of Harmony, N.C., passed away Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at Rosewood Rest Home in Harmony.
Frances, the wife of 43 years to Gilbert P. Grose, who preceded her in death in 1990, is the mother of Sue G. Lawson, wife of Lon Lawson of Stafford County and Jane Laclergue, wife of Dr. Edward Laclergue of Olympia, Wash.
Additionally, Frances is survived by four grandchildren, Jennifer Scalf of Hawthorne, N.J., Lon Lawson of Dallas, Texas, Allison Laclergue of Portland, Ore., and David Laclergue of Seattle, Wash.; and two great-grandchildren, David's two daughters.
Frances has two surviving sisters, Julia Swann Inman of Cool Springs, N.C., and Martha Swann Revis of St. Cloud, Fla.
Frances, was born Dec. 6, 1922, the daughter of the late Broaddus Buckner and Pearl Abernathy Swann. She grew up in the rural community of Cool Springs in Iredell County, N.C. A graduate of Cool Springs High School, she earned an associate degree from Mitchell Community College in Statesville, N.C., followed by a Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from Carson-Newman College, Jefferson City, Tenn. Frances taught history and Spanish at high schools in Elkin and then Harmony, N.C.
A lifelong member of the Harmony Baptist Church, she taught Sunday school, and was a member of the choir, a periodic pianist and member of the Women's Missionary Union (WMU).
A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, at the Ernest Troutman Memorial Chapel in Harmony, followed by interment and a gathering of friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Music Fund, Harmony Baptist Church, Box 160, Harmony, N.C. 28634.
