Robert Rishebarger

Robert Rishebarger, 92, of Ashburn, formerly of Colonial Beach, passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at Heritage Hall in Leesburg.

Born Oct. 18, 1920, in Connellsville, Pa., he was the son of Harry Benton and Olive Lucille Pore Rishebarger. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife and high school sweetheart of 68 years, Helen Marie McClintock Rishebarger.

He graduated in 1939 from Confluence High School in Pennsylvania. He enjoyed working with motors and taught himself welding and electricity. Prior to entering the U.S. Army, he was employed as a machine shop foreman. He served with the Regimental Headquarters Co., 35th Infantry, 25th Division in Japan during World War II. Robert retired as a configuration manager from the Naval Surface Weapons Center, Dahlgren. He received the Refrigeration Service Engineer Society's Man of the Year award in 1977 and worked on the Joint Cruise Missile Project from 1980 to 1983.

A longtime resident of Placid Bay Estates in Colonial Beach, he loved boating, saltwater fishing and camper camping and was an avid square dancer. He was a member of Colonial Beach United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his daughter, Susan Rishebarger of Ashburn; his brother, Donald Rishebarger of Silver Spring, Md.; and nephews William Scott Rishebarger of Chester, S.C., and Mark Rishebarger of Baltimore.

Friends will be received from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, Md. A service will be conducted at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Addison Cemetery, Addison, Pa.

The family thanks the staff at Heritage Hall in Leesburg for their excellent care of Robert during the final months of his life.
