A Westmoreland County educator was one of eight statewide to be honored for leadership in technology education for 2012.

David Smith, Westmoreland's technology director, received the Educational Technology Leadership Award for Region 3, which includes the Fredericksburg area and Northern Neck, the Virginia Department of Education announced last week.

Chesterfield County's Adam Seldow, that county's executive director of technology, received the state's top honor, the 2012 State Educational Technology Leadership Award. He also received the Region 1 award.

The awards were presented Nov. 5 in Roanoke at Virginia Tech's Educational Technology Leadership Conference.

The state recognized these people for helping their school divisions with technology planning and implementation.

Superintendents nominated someone from their divisions. The department of education's Office of Educational Technology then assembled a panel of judges to select the regional winners and the statewide winner from among that group, according to a statement from VDOE spokesman Charles Pyle.
