Irene Elizabeth Raymond Fiess, 89, of Stafford County died peacefully Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, with her children at her side.
Irene was born July 7, 1923, in Paterson, N.J., to Emil and Sadie Raymond. She was the second of four children, with an older sister, Mary, and two younger brothers, Joe and Jack.
Irene attended Montclair State College and served her country in the Navy as a member of the WAVES.
While working as an operator at AT&T, she met Edward Fiess and they married Dec. 27, 1952. Ed and Irene raised six children in Red Bank, N.J., and Woodbridge. She took great joy in being a wife, mother and grandmother.
She was a devout Catholic who served her parish through Meals On Wheels and the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
Irene was predeceased by her husband, Ed.
She is survived by her children, Paul (Shelley), Peter (Pamela), Nina (John), Mary (Lee), John (Colleen) and Ted (Rhonda); her grandchildren, John, Kevin, Jeb, Sam, Audrey, Beth, Emily, Elizabeth, Matthew, Blair, Camille and Hannah; her great-grandchildren, Daniel, Sofia and Lucianna; and brother Jack (Ilene).
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, 186 Shelton Shop Road, Stafford. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, in Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Road, Triangle.
