Stafford authorities are looking for a young man suspected of firing multiple shots into a county residence Saturday night.

Montreus Peterson, 18, whose last known address was in Woodford, is charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling and reckless handling of a firearm. Sheriff's spokesman Bill Kennedy said additional charges are pending.

The incident occurred in the 800 block of Anvil Road in the Olde Forge subdivision, Kennedy said. No one was injured, but the nine residents in the home included two frightened children.

Kennedy said several residents in the southern Stafford neighborhood called the Sheriff's Office shortly after 8 p.m. to report the shooting. Deputy Jason Kreider went to the home and found that no one had been injured.

The residents told Kreider they heard three shots but had no idea who would have fired at them or why. Bullet holes were found in the residence.

While Kreider was talking to the victims, Deputy Vernon Galyen was in the area when he noticed a young man walking in the area of Thomas Lane and Short Street. Galyen asked the man if he'd heard the shooting, and the man responded that his ride had left him and walked in the other direction.

Galyen asked the man to come back and asked him his name. The man walked away again and said he was going to the 7-Eleven to get another ride.

Informed that he was walking away from the 7-Eleven, the man took off running to Olde Forge Drive and through several business parking lots. He eluded Galyen, and a police dog brought to the scene was unable to track him.

Detectives later determined that the man Galyen had confronted was Peterson.

He is described as being 6 feet 2 inches tall and 180 pounds. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 540/658-4400 or Crime Solvers at 540/659-2020.
