Alexander Smith

Alexander Smith, 71, of Stafford County passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012.

Alexander was born to Sarah and Alonzo Smith of Philadelphia on Sept. 27, 1941, and was the oldest of nine children. He graduated in 1960 from Germantown High School, where he excelled in band.

Alexander enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserve delayed entry program on Nov. 6, 1959. He served during the Vietnam War and retired honorably in 1987 at the rank of master sergeant. He attended church services at the chapel on Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, D.C.

Alexander is survived by Thelma, his loving wife of 49 years. He is also survived by four children, Loraine, Alexander Jr., Albert and Rita; two grandchildren, Alexis and Kori; and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law.

Alexander was an avid traveler, enjoyed model railroading and was a staunch fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Mullins & Thompson Funeral Home, Stafford. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at Little Forest Baptist Church in Stafford, where the funeral will be held at 9 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 3. Burial will follow in Quantico National Cemetery, Quantico.

The family thanks everyone for their condolences, expressions of bereavement and prayers during this difficult time of sadness.
