Betsy Ashton Smith Gerring, 57, of Front Royal passed away Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.
She was born in Washington, D.C., on Aug. 2, 1955, a daughter of Grace L. Smith and the late Warner T. Smith of Lake of the Woods, Locust Grove.
She grew up in Arlington, then lived in Hickory, N.C., Marshall and, Front Royal.
Of her life's interests, horses and gourmet cooking were the most important to her. From the time she was very young, she rode and jumped horses. Later, she trained race horses in Virginia. She was a gourmet cook and loved trying out new recipes.
Betsy was preceded in death by her son, Aaron Gerring of Virginia.
She is survived by her mother, Grace L. Smith of Locust Grove; her grandsons, Justin and Aaron Mikey of Martinsburg, W.Va.; her sister, Thea Katharine Smith of Cincinnati; and her cousins, Larry Smith of San Diego, Carlton Smith of Fall River, Mass., Raymond Smith of Pine Bluffs, N.C., and Katharine Bryant and George Bryant, both of College Park, Md.
