Orange, town OK leachate treatment
Orange supervisors OK landfill wastewater contract.

Date published: 12/10/2012

Orange County officials have reached an agreement with Town of Orange officials to process the wastewater generated by the county's landfill for the next five years.

The town's wastewater treatment plant will receive and dispose of the county's leachate under the new agreement.

At its meeting last week, the Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to approve the agreement negotiated by County Attorney Tom Lacheney with town officials. The agreement covers processing about 10,000 gallons of leachate a week.

The cost will be $80 per 1,000 gallons for the first year of the agreement, increasing to $90 per 1,000 gallons for the next four years.

A separate provision of the agreement specifies that the town will not charge Orange County more to process leachate than it charges any other Virginia county.

The supervisors also voted to approve a five-year agreement for the Orange Youth Sports Foundation to manage and operate Booster Park for youth sports and other activities approved by the county. The agreement specifies that the Booster Park is to be a public park used solely for recreational activities that benefit the residents of the county and the surrounding area.
