Evelyn L. Foltz, 74, of Spotsylvania County died at her home Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, with loved ones at her side.
She was a member of Eley's Ford Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Arthur B. Foltz Sr.; her children, Arthur B. Foltz Jr., and his wife, Susan, Laura L. Brooks and her husband, Douglas, and Samuel B. Foltz and his wife, Patricia, all of Spotsylvania; one brother, Arnold Galyen, and his wife, Jean, of Spotsylvania; two sisters, Rena Brooks, and her husband, Roy, and Glenna Bryant, both of Richmond; 11 wonderful grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her daughter Teresa Y. Willis; her parents, Estes and Maggie Galyen; three brothers, Garnett, Vernon, and Norman Galyen; and her sister Janet Gay.
While she may be well known for her incredible talent in the kitchen, Evelyn was the proprietor of two former area grocery stores, Five-Mile Fork Grocery and Chancellorsville Market. After selling the latter to the National Park Service in the late 1970s, she became co-owner of E&M's Home Cooking at Five-Mile Fork. Later she was licensed as a CNA where she developed a deep compassion for helping the elderly and disabled. It was during this time that she began working as a respite volunteer for Hospice. In the mid-'80's she went to work for Dr. Amos Willis and was licensed as an ophthalmic technician until her retirement.
A viewing for family and friends will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons Christopher Foltz, Amos Willis II, Arthur Willis, Brandon Brooks, Samuel Foltz II and Christian Holz. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mike Walsh, John Sawdy and Andre Thompson.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Eley's Ford Baptist Scholarship, 10401 Elys Ford Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22407.
