Michael Kevin Joseph Holmes, 58, of Stafford County, a loving husband, beloved father, grandfather, brother and son, died peacefully after a brief illness on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012. At the time of his death, he was surrounded by his loving wife and family as well as the devoted fellow officers of the Fairfax County Police Department.

Kevin was born in Dunmore, Pa., on March 19, 1954. He was a second lieutenant for the Fairfax County Police Department, faithfully serving the community for 33 years. A highly decorated officer, Kevin was known by his fellow officers and colleagues as a man of integrity, dedication, loyalty, honesty and compassion.

Kevin will be forever remembered for his kind and loving heart, and will always be remembered in our hearts and minds.

Kevin was preceded in death by his mother, Ann L. Holmes, of Dunmore.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 32 years, Nancy L. Holmes; his two sons, Mark A. Holmes and his fiancee, Priscilla Trumpower, and Jason C. Holmes and his fiancee, Heather Applegate; and his four grandchildren whom he cherished, Sydney, Dakota, Landen and Cecilia. He is also survived by his father, Walter G. Holmes of Dunmore; sisters Laurie H. Ekes of Falmouth, Mass., Mary Lisa Brown of Swampscott, Mass., and Patricia H. Conway of Dunmore; brother Thomas J. Holmes of Dunmore; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 27, at Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield, Va. 22151. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 28, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 8800 Braddock Road, Annandale, Va. 22003.

In lieu of flowers, a contribution in Kevin's honor may be made to the Fairfax County Police Association, in support of the Peer Support Program, 5625 Revercomb Court, Fairfax, VA 22030.
