Jim P. Brodhead

James P. Brodhead, 67, of Fredericksburg died Monday, Dec. 17, 2012.

A native of Washington, D.C., Jim grew up in New York state and received a bachelor's degree in drama from The University of Virginia.

Jim was a radio operator in the Navy serving on the USS Atakapa, an Abnaki-class of fleet ocean tug. He served in the North Sea; Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; the Caribbean; and the Mediterranean.

He moved to the Fredericksburg area in the 1970s, living in Lake of the Woods before moving to Spotsylvania. He was a volunteer fireman for both the Lake of the Woods and Chancellor fire departments. He worked as an agent for Nationwide Insurance for 37 years. He and Harry Rosnick were business partners for 25 years.

Jim was active in local theater and loved music, art, photography, cooking and fishing. In his later years he enjoyed meeting regularly with friends at Hyperion coffee shop in downtown Fredericksburg. He was an exceptional raconteur known for his quick wit and sense of humor.

Survivors include his daughters, Wendy Brodhead and Ruth K. Duncan; Ruth's husband Robert; brothers Edwin Brodhead and Rick McLaughlin; sister Holly Raybon; and grandchildren Rachael Katharine Russo and Abagail Dawn Russo.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at Trinity Episcopal Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church.
