Wilson (Wilbert) Baker was called home by our Heavenly Father on Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, while in hospice care at Mary Washington Hospital.
He was born Sept. 27, 1943, in Scotland Neck, N.C., to the late Mary Lucille Baker and the late William Edward Suggs.
Wilson attended Brawley High School in Scotland Neck. He later went on to work in Virginia Beach. After a short time in Virginia, he went on to Hempstead, N.Y., where he met and married Gladys Peoples. Together, they had three children-two sons and one daughter-and nurtured one stepdaughter. Wilson worked for Cowles Nissan of Woodbridge and also became a member of Shiloh Baptist Church (Old Site), in Fredericksburg. Wilson Baker was a Vietnam veteran who proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.
Wilson leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 51 years, Gladys Baker; sons Gordy Lavon Baker (Joyce) of Fort Meade, Md., Gregory Baker of North Babylon, N.Y.; daughter Valerie Michelle Gartrell (Gregory) of Stafford; stepdaughter Velma Jenket (Donald) of Whitakers, N.C.; and numerous other family members.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, in Quantico National Cemetery.
