The Reverend Roland Preston Sr., 76, of Stafford County departed this life on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at Mary Washington Hospital after a long battle with cancer.
He was the pastor of Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church in Stafford and a member of the Chancellor Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stuart and LolaBelle Preston; his stepmother, Daisy Preston; two sons, Roland Preston Jr. and Rodney Preston; one daughter, Kathleen Greenhow; one grandchild, Sierra Tibbs; his father-in-law, Lemuel Johnson; and one son-in-law, Michael Johnson.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Bernice Preston; three daughters, Cynthia Johnson, Camella Preston (Pete Bundy) and Beatrice Tibbs (Harry); two sons, Reginald Preston Sr. (Sylvainia) and Ray Preston Sr.; eight grandchildren, Ray Preston Jr. (Marsha), Reginald Preston Jr. (Ziara), Rodney Johnson (Danielle), Veronica Preston, Joseph Preston and Roland, Carl and Bryan Greenhow; five great-grandchildren, Trinity, Iyanna and Aliza Preston, Tatyanna Wright and Camille Johnson; one brother, Clarence Preston (Mary); one son-in-law, Alden Green; his mother-in-law, Bernice Johnson; his best friend of 18 years, Walter Pennino; and a host of family and friends. He also leaves behind his two dogs, Simba and Duke.
A service will be held at noon Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home, 200 Butternut Drive, Fredericksburg, Va. 22408. A public viewing will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, Jan. 3, from 4 to 8 p.m., with family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in the Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church cemetery; 135 Chapel Green Road, Fredericksburg, Va. 22405. A repast will not be held on the day of the service.
