Braxton Winfred Dawson, 84, of Fredericksburg died Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at his residence.
Mr. Dawson graduated from Gretna High School. He attended Hampden Sydney College, and graduated from Lynchburg College. Mr. Dawson was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He worked as manager of Universal CIT from 1957 to 1966. He then served as president of Young Motors Inc. and then worked with Rosner Motors until his retirement in 2002.
Mr. Dawson was a former deacon and elder at The Presbyterian Church in Fredericksburg. He was a member of the Fredericksburg Lions Club and served as president of the Fredericksburg Area Chamber of Commerce from 1973 to 1974.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Dawson; two daughters, Nancy Greene (Michael) and Rebecca Maynard (Matthew); brother Clarence Dawson (Gloria); two sisters, Charlotte Hamlett and Dolly Tolson; four grandchildren, Erik Greene, Elizabeth Greene, Cullen Maynard and Sydney Maynard; and brother-in-law Randolph Young (Mary Elizabeth Sheridan).
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A service will follow at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
