Marvin C. Scurlock

"Say a kind word" was the motto that Marvin Curtis Scurlock lived by until his passing on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012. He resided on Marlborough Point in Stafford County.

Marvin was born on Aug. 30, 1951, in Washington, D.C. to Arch Chilton and Maurine (Spurbeck) Scurlock. Marvin earned a B.S. from James Madison University in 1976 with a double major in chemistry and biology.

He spent his career providing safe drinking water to Fort A.P. Hill, the Quantico Marine Base, Occoquan, and Washington, DC. He also served his country in the U.S. Navy as a weatherman on the USS Tripoli.

Marvin will be missed by many including his son, Aaron Scurlock and wife Carol of Fairfax; his daughter, Alysia Desbiens and husband Shawn Thompson of Menlo Park, Calif.; seven grandchildren; brother Arch C. Scurlock Jr. of Fairfax; sisters Susan Theiler, Tracey Yonick, Mary Scurlock, Nancy Collins and Margaret Scurlock; and his stepmother, Nancy (Morrison) Scurlock.

A celebration of Marvin's life took place Dec. 27, at the historic Wakefield Chapel in Annandale. Marvin will be inurned at Arlington National Cemetery in the Spring of 2013.
