Doswell ruritans plan breakfast
The Doswell Ruritan Club will hold an all-you-can-eat saltfish breakfast on Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Doswell Community Center, 16433 N. Washington Highway.
The meal also will include eggs, bacon, apples, biscuits, cornbread, potatoes, juice and hot coffee. Take-out orders are available.
The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children ages 4-10.
Aquia harbour 'rescue angels' support families
For the fifth straight year, the Aquia Harbour Volunteer Rescue Squad's "rescue angels" provided support to local families for the holidays.
The group aided five local families selected by the Stafford County Department of Social Services and also adopted two additional families.
A total of 17 children received Christmas gifts.
LifeCare medical transports fÉted
LifeCare Medical Transports recently received the 2012 Governors Emergency Medical Award for outstanding contribution to health and safety.
According to information posted by the Virginia Department of Health, "LifeCare Medical Transports' significant contributions to Virginia's local, regional and state EMS system are exceptional and greatly valued in the Commonwealth of Virginia."
The agency noted LifeCare's creation of a wellness and safety program focused on physical fitness, healthy diet, weight loss and injury prevention.
To promote a safe working en-vironment, the company also equipped every ambulance with GPS-enabled devices that detect vehicle speed, location, seatbelt usage and the activation of emergency lights.
To promote a healthy lifestyle, they have a no-tobacco policy, which strictly prohibits tobacco use during working hours.
Employees also got involved in a weight loss initiative by creating an in-house "Biggest Loser" contest, where they participated in weekly weigh-ins and the top three winners received prize money.
In order to assist staff with better health insurance benefits, Lifecare participates in a Captive Health Plan, which offers customized health care options at reduced rates.
parenting group meets in january
Attachment Parenting International of Fredericksburg will meet Thursday.
The group is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that meets on the second Thursday of each month.

The Caroline Gray's Daughters of the Confederacy will meet Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church on Milford Street in Bowling Green.
The program will be "Reconstruction 1865-1877."
