Vernell Virginia Sullivan Carnohan, 92, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013.
Vernell was a lifelong resident of the Fredericksburg area, and a 1937 graduate of Fredericksburg High School.
She resided at Carriage Hill Nursing Home at the time of her passing. Vernell loved her family, and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed dancing and music.
Vernell is survived by three children, Donald I. Carnohan and wife Susan of Fredericksburg, Janice C. Pitts and husband Benny of Spotsylvania County and Virginia C. Preble of Hawaii; a brother Donald W. "Pete" Sullivan and wife Frances of Stafford County; five grandchildren, Benjamin L. Durrette, Shannon C. Macey, Whitney P. Miller, Elise P. Smith and Maggie Carnohan; seven great-grandchildren, Benjamin G. Durrette, Cole Durrette, Bradley Durrette, Alyssa Durrette, Carsyn Rose, Connor Smith and Dillon Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Vernell was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, C. Irvin Carnohan Jr.; a great-grandson, Aiden K. Rose; and her son-in-law, Michael Preble.
