Marie Mecalina "Mickie" Gardner, 84, of Stafford County passed away Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, of a heart attack at Mary Washington Hospital.
She was born in Cohasset, Mass., on April 24, 1928, to William and Lucia Polito, and grew up in a family of 11 children. Marie traveled extensively with her husband, a U.S. Marine, and lived in Massachusetts, California, North Carolina and Virginia. She had been a resident of Stafford for the past 32 years.
She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Chester M. Gardner Jr.; four of her siblings, Barbara Harris of Hingham, Mass., Antonette King of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Ann Luker and William Polito, both of Cohassett, Mass.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two children from a previous marriage, Donna Lydon and Kenneth Luker; six of her siblings; and her parents.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Covenant Funeral Service, Stafford.
Other services will be held at Hurley Funeral Home in Randolph, Mass., with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery in Randolph.
