Students of the Month
;">Lauren Deveney, daughter of Dan and Sharon Deveney, was selected at Colonial Forge High School. She is head of art submissions for Molten Art, the school's literary magazine, and is a member of TSA. Lauren received an academic letter for maintaining a 3.8 her freshman through junior years, and an academic excellence award for the high grade in college-prep geometry during her sophomore year.
Lauren contributes artwork for service programs at Fredericksburg United Methodist Church and does volunteer home renovations projects with the church youth group and participates in the Stop Hunger Now program. She plans to attend a four-year university, possibly to Virginia Commonwealth University to enroll in their top-ranked art program, majoring in communication arts.
Elizabeth Crenshaw Chase, daughter of Benjamin and Sarah Chase, was selected as the Student of the Month for December at Stafford High School. She attends Commonwealth Governor's School, is vice president of the National Honor Society and anchor of Scholastic Bowl. She also participates in Chambers Singers Chorus, Leeland Station swim team, residential governor's school mentor program and plays the piano.
Elizabeth was named a National Merit semifinalist, National AP Scholar with Distinction, National Latin Exam silver medalist, outstanding AP Calculus BC Student, Outstanding French 2 Student and Outstanding Latin V Student. She also received the National History Day U.S. Constitution Award and placed first in the Virginia History Day Senior Paper competition.
She volunteers as assistant coach of the Drew Middle School MathCounts Team, Leeland Station Swim Buddy, counselor at Camp Wildwood and at the library. Elizabeth plans to go to college, preferably the College of William & Mary, but is undecided on a major.
The following students have been selected as the King George Optimist Club's Students of the Month for December at King George High School.
Kourtney Miller was nominated by Mrs. Klump, who writes, "Kourtney is always willing to help other students who are struggling with the material and be a peer role model. She takes her education seriously and strives to always do her best. She maintains excellent grades while participating in extracurricular activities."
Nathan Falger was nominated by Mrs. Wynes, who writes, "Nathan has a great positive attitude in my class and during the rehearsals for the full play. He is always quick to try and engage other students to either do the right thing or to help them get in character before a scene. Nathan has never been a problem and I have heard him give guidance to underclassmen who were not acting right. His performance and character development for my class and for the play are well-thought-out and very mature for his age."
