Officials at Mary Washington Healthcare said Friday afternoon that they had purchased Reese Medical Associates, the practice of Dr. W. Andrew Reese, in Spotsylvania County.

Reese, 52, is a native of Northern Virginia and a graduate of what was then called the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond.

He is a family practitioner and former emergency room physician at Mary Washington Hospital. He founded his primary-care practice about 10 years ago.

His main office is located on Spotsylvania Avenue in the Lee's Hill area. Last year, he opened a second office across from the main entrance to the Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center.

Reese and his colleagues, Drs. Diep Nguyen, Nelson Henry and Nikki Spain, will now be Mary Washington employees. They will continue to see patients at both locations, according to a Mary Washington press release.

Neither Reese, nor hospital officials, were available for comment Friday.

In the Mary Washington statement, Reese said, "I chose to join Mary Washington because of their depth and breadth of services and their longstanding commitment to our community."

Reese Medical Associates sees about 25,000 patients a year, according to Mary Washington. The practice offers traditional primary care by appointment and walk-in.

Reese's practice is Mary Washington's 16th physician practice. Most are specialty practices.
