Hillary was MIA in Benghazi affair

Hillary was MIA in Benghazi affair

Immediately after a scathing GSA Inspector General report said taxpayer dollars were squandered at a Las Vegas convention, Martha Johnson, the GSA administrator, resigned. She was not directly involved in the planning of the notorious conference. But as GSA administrator, she was the person in charge. Martha Johnson's resignation was the honorable and right thing to do.

When the Accountability Review Board placed the blame for inadequate security at U.S. facilities in Benghazi on the State Department, Eric Boswell, head of diplomatic security, resigned. Again, the honorable thing to do.

But where is Hillary Clinton in all of this? As secretary of state, Clinton publicly accepted responsibility for not providing adequate security at the Benghazi Special Mission before the attack. But her avoidance in testifying before Congress on two occasions makes her acceptance of responsibility more political theater than sincere admission of fault.

During the attack, Hillary appeared absent from duty. After the attack, Hillary passed off to Susan Rice (U.S. ambassador to the United Nations) the responsibility of informing the American public. Rice went on five TV shows claiming wrongly that the attack was spontaneous and resulted from an anti-Islam movie. Clinton should have resigned immediately or before the ARB report was issued. As head of the State Department, that would have been the honorable and right thing to do. Instead, Hillary will not be leaving her post until her replacement is on the job.

When that happens, she will give the impression that she merely wants to move on to do other things with her life, and in no way is her departure related to failures at Benghazi. And so it is in politics, where America loses, and political ambition corrupts the soul and triumphs over doing what is right and honorable.
