A man got away with more than $100 in cash after he robbed a woman who had just completed an ATM transaction inside a Stafford County convenience store, police said.
The incident occurred Monday at the Wawa at 105 Garrisonville Road in North Stafford, Sheriff's spokesman Bill Kennedy said.
Kennedy said a woman in her mid-50s entered the store just before 5:30 p.m. and used the ATM. She had just received her cash when the thief snatched the money and her Navy Federal Credit Union debit card out of her hand and ran out of the store. The woman was not injured.
Kennedy said someone who was in the store chased the fleeing man but soon lost sight of him and returned to the store.
The man was last seen running toward the parking lot of the nearby Wingate hotel.
The thief was described as a white male, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 11 inches tall and 150 to 170 pounds. He was wearing a dark blue or black hoodie, jeans, black shoes and a blue or purple undershirt.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 540/658-4400 or Crime Solvers at 540/659-2020. Deputy Dustin Walker is handling the investigation.
