June L. Eastman

June L. Eastman, 90, of Woodbridge died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Birmingham Green Nursing Center in Manassas.

June was preceded in death by her parents, Robert W. Daub and Mary Ann Long Daub; her loving husband, Albert E. Eastman; and two sisters, Violet English and Vera Kniley. She is survived by her sons, Jerry R. Eastman and his wife, Elizabeth, and Christopher R. Eastman; seven grandchildren, Jerry R. Eastman Jr., Brian M. Eastman, Shawn M. Eastman, Aaron C. Eastman, Melissa, Albert and John Potts; two great-grandchildren, Corinne A. Eastman and Michael E. Eastman; nephews Joe English and David Wikel; and nieces Susan, Laurie and Cindy, of the Wikel family.

June was born in Mahanoy City, Pa., where, as a young girl, she worked in her father's store before attending Westchester State Teachers College. Upon turning 18, she went for nurses training at Lankenau Hospital, where she received her RN certificate.

June joined the Army Nurse Corps, was deployed to Japan and served on the hospital ship USAHS Charles A. Stafford. While stationed in Japan and working in the 176th Station Hospital, June met her husband Albert, who was one of her patients. Albert and June were married May 28, 1946, at the 42nd General Hospital in Tokyo, Japan. June was discharged in 1946 as a first lieutenant.

After a brief stay in Seattle, they moved to Ann Arbor, Mich., where June received her bachelor's degree in arts from Eastern Michigan University. In 1953, they moved to Northern Virginia, where June eventually taught at Claremont Elementary School until she retired at age 55.

A private service with military honors will be held Friday, Jan. 18, at Quantico National Cemetery, where June will be interred with her husband.

Arrangements are being handled by Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home and Crematory in Dale City.
