The sanctity of unborn life is worth reclaiming

Jan. 22--this coming Tuesday--marks the 40th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision. Along with its companion case, Doe v. Bolton, it established a legal right to abortion through all nine months of pregnancy. Since 1973 over 55 million babies have been aborted. That's 3,000 each day in our nation.

In our district the statistic is one abortion for every four live births, and in the city of Fredericksburg the number of resident abortions and the number of resident live births are almost equal. For those of us who value the sanctity of unborn life and care about the hurting women behind these staggering statistics, this is a cause of great grief.

As our area recently paused to remember the 150th anniversary of the Civil War in Fredericksburg and the many thousands who perished in that war, may we remember the innocent pre-born deaths among us and mourn. May we not only mourn but find it in our hearts to get involved to make a difference.

The Fredericksburg Pregnancy Center (540/370-1800) provides medical services related to pregnancy diagnosis by ultrasound confirmation and compassionate support to women facing an unplanned pregnancy.

You can make a difference in a life by getting involved.
