I was appalled when I read about the move by the Virginia Senate to redistrict Virginia this year ["Redistricting bill stuns Democrats," Jan. 22]. Even if it is not illegal, the Republican senators are setting a horrible precedent to redistrict every time there is a power shift in the Virginia Senate.

Playing politics with our voting rights is despicable. The Republican attempt to disenfranchise the residents of this state with their outrageous gerrymandering and anti-voting rights legislation is beyond the pale.

Virginia deserves good government that is working for all the people, not just those who hold a temporary slim majority. The Republican Party has sunk to a new low with this move. Republican representatives in the General Assembly should be ashamed of this sham.

We used to have bipartisanship in our state--now all we have are right-wing ideologues trying to grab power in any way they can. Republicans have pulled our state into the mud along with them.
