Grace Porter Close, 90, a lifelong Dumfries resident, passed away peacefully Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at Prince William Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Feb. 20, 1922, to the late John and Laura Porter and was also preceded in death by her husbands, Frank A. Tate and John L. Close; six brothers; and four sisters.

She is survived by her children, Sharon Turner (Cal), Frank Tate (Liz), Renee Williams (Wayne), Bernard Close (Kimberly) and Darrell Close (Tanya); sisters Juanita Smith and Mae Minor (Robert); brothers Carroll Porter (Lillian) and Clarence Porter; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at Little Union Baptist Church in Dumfries, followed by a funeral at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Quantico National Cemetery in Triangle.
