Mount Zion Baptist Church, 309 Wolf St., will welcome the Rev. Ronald Cooper, associate pastor of Shiloh (Old Site) Baptist Church, as the speaker for Communion on Feb. 10 at the 11 a.m. service. 540/373-5553.

St. George's Episcopal Church, 905 Princess Anne St., will host "From Repentance to Hope: A Service of Remembrance, Celebration and Witness," a commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, on Feb. 16 at 10 a.m., with the Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori, the presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church; the Right Rev. Shannon S. Johnston, Episcopal bishop of Virginia; the Rev. Lawrence Davies, former pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church (Old Site); and Mayor Katherine Greenlaw. A statue by Ayokunle Odeleye will be unveiled. Free. Redeemer Lutheran Church, 5120 Harrison Road, will begin the Lenten season with Ash Wednesday services Feb. 13 at 12:30 and 7 p.m. During the 7 p.m. service, Larry Dubin from Jews for Jesus will present "Christ in the Pass-over," a demonstration of the significance of the ingredients of the ancient Seder meal. 540/898-4748; embracedbyhim.org.

Christ Episcopal Church, 8951 Courthouse Road, will hold a Celtic Evensong on Feb. 10 at 7 p.m., a contemplative worship experience enhanced by beautiful Celtic music.

The annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake and Chili Supper will be held Feb. 12, 5-8 p.m. All you can eat, $5 per person or $20 per family.

Two services will be held on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 13, at noon and 7:30 p.m. Ashes will be imposed at both services. 540/582-5033.
