Ruth Kulig Pond, 96, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at home.
She was the widow of Frederick O. Pond. Survivors include a daughter, Diana Pond Jagoda; a son, Frederick Outland Pond II and his wife, Cathy Nilsen Pond; a granddaughter, Emily Pond Walken and her husband, David Walken; and one great-granddaughter, Madeleine Louise Walken. She is also survived by sister Gertrude Baldischwiler; and several nephews and nieces.
Ruth, a longtime resident of Suffolk, was an ardent lover of flowers, art and the outdoors. She was a member of the Riverview Garden Club, at one time serving as its president. Her flower specimens and arrangements were consistently award-winning.
While in Suffolk, she was an active member of the St. Mary Catholic Church and later St. Peter Church in Big Pine Key, Fla. After leaving Suffolk, she resided in Fredericksburg, Richmond and the Florida Keys. For more than 30 years, Ruth was engaged in activities and various fundraisers at her Florida home community. Prior to her most recent move back to Stafford County, Ruth was a resident at Imperial Plaza in Richmond.
A private celebration to honor her life will take place in the Spring.
