Margaret McWilliams

Margaret Gibson McWilliams, 87, lately of Fredericksburg died Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, after a short illness. At the time of her death, Mrs. McWilliams was residing in the town of Orange.

Mrs. McWilliams was born in Washington, D.C. During the World War II era, she served with the Department of the Navy and did service as an air raid warden. She later worked in several positions in national defense and intelligence and retired from federal service in 1986.

A resident of the Fredericksburg area since 1976, Mrs. McWilliams was active in Stafford County politics and was past president of the Stafford County taxpayers' association. She also was appointed to the Fredericksburg Fair Housing Commission. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution.

Mrs. McWilliams' marriage to John E. McWilliams ended in divorce. She leaves two children, John Patrick "Pat" McWilliams of Buckingham and Sarah Margaret "Sally" McWilliams of Orange County; two grandchildren, Michael McWilliams of Jupiter, Fla., and Cheryl McWilliams of Manassas; two great-grandchildren, Shelby and Ryan McWilliams of Jupiter, Fla.; one sister, Mary Goyea of Louisville, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, where the service will be held at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
