Edwin Harvie Jones Jr., 68, of Woodstock, formerly of Fredericksburg, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, after a brief illness.

Born Jan. 17, 1945, in Charlottesville, he was the son of the late Edwin Harvie and Frances Clary Jones of Fredericksburg. He graduat ed from James Monroe High School in Fredericksburg. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Hampden–Sydney College. While there, he encouraged the inclusion of Asian stud ies into the history curricu lum. He received a master’s degree from the Woodrow Wilson School of Foreign Affairs of the University of Virginia and a master’s de gree in history from Virginia Tech. He was a dedicated and gifted teacher in schools in Massachusetts and Virginia.

He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Anne Beverley Jones Kerr of White Post, Clarke County; two nieces, Blair Baker Franco of Waxhaw, N.C., and Catherine Meade Baker of Garden City, N.Y.; and two great-nieces, Lauren Franco and Lyla Franco of Waxhaw, N.C.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Freder icksburg, with the Rev. Alan Hooker officiating. Inter ment will follow at 2:30 p.m. in Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, with the Rev. Dr. Charles Moore, cousin of the deceased, officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be Carrol Cox, Glendon Insley and Ralph Hicks.
