James Q. Watters

James Quincy Watters Jr., 77, of Fredericksburg died Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond after a brief illness.

A native of Florida, Jim was born June 27, 1935. During his service in the U.S. Navy, he met Angelina Frances Ventura. They married in 1955 and soon settled in her hometown of Fredericksburg.

Jim was a self-employed entrepreneur in the construction and fence business. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was an active longtime member of the Cavaliers Club. He enjoyed fishing, boating, cooking, camping and hosting family and friends at homes at Coles Point and Fairview Beach.

Survivors are daughter Debra Watters Ross (Richard); son James Q. Watters III (Rosemary); four grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; brother Paul Watters; sisters Carolyn Campbell and Joyce Schulz; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years; his parents; a brother; and a sister.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 1, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Inurnment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

The family requests that memorial gifts be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, Box 758517, Topeka, Kan. 66675; or to a charity of one's choice.
